Imitations Are Getting On My Nerves

Just like the title says, the amount of fake imitations there have been made to the Rubik’s Cube is plain out annoying. You may say I am overreacting, but, think of it from my perspective. I am trying to teach people about the Rubik’s Cube. Someone picks up a Cube Puzzle, or a Rubic Cube, and they think it is the real deal.

Today, I was eating lunch with my father and as we were walking out, I spotted a Rubik’s Cube in a store window. I checked it out and it was called a Cube Puzzle, cheaply priced for $2.50, compared to the average $10 cube. It probably wouldn’t work well and break before the stickers even start peeling, but “Cube Puzzle,” threw me overboard!

It is estimated over 100 million Rubik’s Cubes have been sold since it was first produced, but note, that does not include imitations. Imitations could add another million. I have seen imitations that are called the Magic Cube, how ironic. I guess they didn’t get the memo.

I have seen and fiddled with fake Rubik’s Cubes and they are something to avoid for multiple reasons:

  • Slow
  • Crappy, not well built
  • No Rubik’s Cube sticker in the middle, so it is not official and will not be allowed in a competition
  • It is not a Rubik’s Cube!

The moral being, the imitations are normal for any power-selling toy, but Cube Puzzle mad me laugh. What’s next, hard square?
