Now some tips:

• Exercise your Fingers

Sounds silly? It’s not. Your fingers will be loser and more willing to move faster for you if you stretch them out beforehand. Whether that be cracking your fingers, doing excersises, or anything else, I gurantee it will help your time out by a second or two.

• Plan your moves ahead

Depending on your formula or type of solving system you use, its always important to plan all of your moves ahead of time. Know what your going to do next. Which move to make, which piece to move. It will keep you a few steps ahead for easily solving the Rubik’s Cube.

Quick-Tip:

Never jump right into solving the cube. Start with a nice slow solve. Do it again. Then start to speed up.

The Rubik’s Revolution is the newest Rubik’s Cube type product, following the Rubik’s Professor or 5×5x5, the Rubik’s Revenge, or 4×4x4, and of course the Rubik’s Cube, 3×3x3.

Unfortunately, the product is merely branding off the Rubik’s Cube. The revolution does not move. All it is a cube shape and nice colors. The cube has 6 games:

• Light Speed
• Pattern Panic
• Multiplayer Madness
• Rapid Recharge
• Code Cracker
• Cube Catcher

Some of the games seem to be repetitive, but overall the games are fun. My personal favorite is Code Cracker. Light Speed is the classic game you find on the commercials. Try to press the button first and repeat.

Problems with the Revolution: The sound control. As infinitesimal as this sounds, it is quite annoying and important. There needs to be a way to either turn off the sound or at least turn it down. The noise is loud, obnoxious and frankly disturbs everyone around you.

Also, the packaging is nice, but unreasonable. The revolution runs about $20 in-stores. This price could easily be dropped with better packaging and use of plastic. This packaging may be good or bad. Depending on if you like the collector’s item value. However, a simple collector’s edition revolution cube could have solved this.

Again, the revolution doesn’t even move. It is merely just some branding. My synopsis, buy it for fun and collecting. Children will love it for Christmas and other holidays.

After opening the cube. I played around with it a little. And, it was incredibly hard to move. It would take a lot of strength just to move 2 sides. Of course now, it was bigger and more sides to move. I made a few basic patterns here and there and it was fun.

The cube was very similar to the 3×3x3 making patters easily made and such. That’s it for now, I am very tired.

Of course, I have many quick stories to share with you having to do with the 5×5x5 Rubik’s Cube.

Two years ago, on my birthday I had a small party with my friends, and of course, gifts were brought. My parents, knowing and loving me, bought me a Rubik’s Cube Professor. I was dumbstruck. This magnificent cube was staring straight at me, imprisoned in plastic packaging, look stunning and marvelous. All at once. The rainbow like colors reflected off the light bulbs casting a glare straight over my face. Standing on a perfectly triangular black stand, the cube was truly magnificent.

Wow, what magnificent description.

That is where it all begins.

Back to 5×5x5. They are bigger, heavier, more challenging, take less time to solve, and less people know how to solve them. It will be hard to find a solution online for the 5×5x5, but I hear it is very similar practices to the 3×3x3. I am excited, and scared, but pumped for a great challenge or the summer.

Honetsly, the more I look at it I want to throw up. It is a disgrace. It’s huge, and an electronic game. Nothing to do with Cubing. My friends pick it up and go, “Hey, why doesn’t it turn.” I laugh but cry on  the inside. Not really.

It is still complex and uses skills to like, do, but it is honestly a game for 5-10 year olds. All of this is in my opinion so please don’t take it offensively. As soon as the Rubik’s Cube Tournament puts it into their schedule I will take this back. But please, it’s just using the name of the Rubik’s Cube.

At least once every month pick up a cube and solve it. Done. Easy. This will keep you from forgetting the ways of the cube.

If you forgot how to solve a cube already. Suck it up. Learn it again.

If you are slow and was fast before, here are some tips:

1. Slowly solve the cube.
2. Time yourself adequately. No second-guessing.
3. Like number 2, give yourself 15 seconds like in a real tournament.
4. First time, slowly solve the cube. Second time actual go for it.
5. Seek out regular, not short cut ways to solve the cube.
6. After two or three tries, go for the short-cuts and look at your time.

Ignoring these key rules will prevent you from being a better cubist or at least where you were before you forgot how to solve the cube. You WILL get discourage jumping right into it. Follow these directions.

How does this relate to cubing?  I can solve a cube in almost 40 seconds, but I haven’t done it in a long time. So, just yesterday I picked up my cube and whittled away with a timer going as fast as I could. My time:

2 Minutes.

3 times that of my average best. I went again this time:

Back to normal. Still very slow for my taste, but the most important thing is that I almost forgot how to solve the cube. That is why it took so long. In another upcoming article, I will give you tips to rekindling your Rubik’s Cube abilities. Beside the obvious relearning the cube, there are ways to get faster to where you were.
